July: the Start of the New Year in Medicine

Ever since the first day of internship, the month of July has always been associated in my mind with changes. This year, it's an exciting one, because the Cevey Pediatrics family is expanding to add another doctor! Earlier this month, Dr. Barakah (pronounced "Berica") Day signed on with the practice, and we are just waiting for her credentialing with all the insurances we are in network with to go through. Her projected start date is September 1. As a result of this exciting development, all patients on the waitlist will imminently be invited to come off the waitlist as Cevey Pediatrics patients enrolled into Dr. Day's panel, and the practice will be open again to new patients whose insurance plans the practice is in network with.

Rest assured that what WON'T change is how the practice has always been run. Full compliance according to the official ACIP/AAP immunization schedule without adjustments is still the standard. Our aim is still to create a relationship between pediatrician and family where we, the pediatricians, come alongside parents and child(ren) with medical guidance as it relates to the various issues that may affect a child’s health through the years. Lastly, even though the number of appointments available per day will increase, how they are booked will remain the same. All visits will be by appointment only, whether days/weeks/months in advance for well and routine appointment types, or same day for acute illness symptoms/acute injuries/shot-only appointment types. Office appointments still will not be available in the evenings, on weekends, or during lunch.

We are excited to be able to expand our appointment availability to be able to help more pediatric patients with the addition of Dr. Day to our staff this fall!

Soledad has grown up in San Antonio since childhood. Since graduating from high school, she has been working with patients as a volunteer or as a medical assistant. She has also been working with children for years at her church. Soledad joined the Cevey Pediatrics team in June 2023, and her favorite thing about working here is engaging with the kids and taking part into making every office visit fun and exciting! She hopes to use this experience towards her eventual goal of becoming an NP.

We look forward to our patients getting to meet and interact with our newest Medical Assistant, Soledad!

Dr. Day is expected to begin seeing patients at the practice this coming September!

Dr. Day was born in Boston, MA and was raised in San Antonio, TX. As a senior in high school, she was thrilled to be accepted into the University of Notre Dame. While there, she played tennis for the Division I top 10 ranked Fighting Irish and also obtained leadership recognition in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of America. She participated in a Neonatal ICU HUGS program and sang in a summer choir. She was awarded Athletic Academic Excellence recognition and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Theology.

She then returned home to Texas to work towards her dream of becoming a pediatrician, and she obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Following medical school, Dr. Day moved to Austin to complete her pediatric residency at Dell Children’s Hospital with the University of Texas Southwestern. She enjoyed the unique vibe of Austin; she was introduced to roller skating during a residency retreat, and ultimately joined a competitive roller derby team during her final year of residency.

She then gained invaluable experience in underserved areas across Central Texas as a pediatrician with Dell Children’s Circle of Care/ Lonestar Circle of Care as she treated children with a variety of medical concerns. In 2016, she accepted a position at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in South Austin. It was during this time, she met her husband, and they started their family.

Dr. Day is excited to be home, and her family is excited to be settling down in San Antonio. Her hobbies include CrossFit, and her adventures now consist of quality time with her husband and three young children, swimming or exploring various places such as the Pearl, Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, and multiple parks and playgrounds. The family also enjoys quality grandparent time.
