Congrats to the Class of 2023!
By the time this email is published, I expect that all local high schools will have held their graduation ceremonies for their seniors. We at Cevey Pediatrics are proud of this first big accomplishment towards adulthood! This graduating class holds a special place in my heart because my daughter also is in the class of 2023, and it's been so amazing to see them along with my own Emily grow from preschoolers (the age my daughter was when I took over this practice) to young adults, and to see the multitude of directions into the world where each person is headed.
Though we look fondly back over the years of watching everyone grow up, it's also time for these graduates to move on to adult care medical practices so that there is space for a new generation of patients to start being taken care of by me. I know it'll be difficult to leave the Dum-dum lollipops and brightly painted themed exam rooms, but I'm sure everyone is ready to turn a new page and start with a medical provider that views him or her as the adult he or she now is, and doesn't still sometimes see each one of you as the child you were when I met you. Those of you who have more longstanding medical issues that I have been managing over the years have already hopefully found specialists to take over management of those issues as we at the office have been gently reminding you to do any time you have been seen this past school year.
Once you have chosen the practice to which you will transfer your medical care, all you need to do is to fill out and sign that practice's "Release of Information" form (or whatever it may be called at that practice). That practice will send the release to my office (my fax number is listed on my website to make it easier for them to get these releases to me), and by about two weeks later we will forward the entirety of your medical record that is saved on my EMR (including all the paper stuff for those of you who may have started off being patients of Drs Cook at the old Broadway/Sunset location before the practice was transferred to me) to your new medical provider as a digital copy burned onto a CD.
Thank you for the honor of being your pediatrician all these past years, and I wish you the very best as you go out into the world to make it a better place. Retirement really isn't coming up any time soon for me, so if in 4-5 years some of you start coming back as new parents of little ones of your own, I'll be tickled pink! But for now, I must say with a hug and through tears in my eyes, in the words of the voice at the end of the UT Austin course registration phone system each semester (from... ahem, 27 years ago), "Good bye and good luck."
