Why Does Cevey Pediatrics Maintain a Wait List?
Most of you who are getting this email are already Cevey Pediatrics patients, so you may not even know what I’m referring to. But if you’ve talked me up to your friends who are not yet Cevey Pediatrics patients, and they called to get seen by me, they may have gone back to you complaining that the office told them to sign up on the Waitlist.
Why, you might ask, do we only accept new patients (other than siblings of existing patients) off the Waitlist? I promise, it’s not that I’m being elitist or exclusivist. What I hold as the most precious part of the relationships I have with each family/patient is the individualized attention and accessibility they are each offered. Every one of my patients/families has 24-hour phone and email accessibility to reach me, and when they do reach me after hours for an urgent issue, there is typically no need to remind me of aspects of their child’s past medical history that may affect the current urgent issue.
There is a limit, though, to how many patients I can know and immediately recall so thoroughly and completely, and if my patient panel gets too large, then I worry that I won’t be able to remember each individual patient’s history but also that I won’t have the energy to still be that accessible for everyone without burning out. Therefore, the Cevey Pediatrics Waitlist was established so that as groups of patients graduate from the practice or families move out of the area, the time and energy devoted to each one of them can be transferred to a new patient that has already expressed interest in becoming part of the practice by signing up on the Waitlist.
To give you an idea of the size of our list, we began gathering names in June of last year. While we've been able to pull names off the list every couple of months, today that list is well over 100 names. I want to thank those who've referred prospective patients to the practice for their vote of confidence and those who've signed up to "wait" for their patience as we move forward and progress through adding to the practice. We look forward to serving and continuing to provide the personalized pediatric care you value.
We've updated our appointments policy at Cevey Pediatrics. It is our intention to provide your children the best care possible at all times and to accommodate as many requests as is realistic and feasible. It is within this context that we ask you to take a few moments to review our new policy below:
